WAHU 2023 announced a new postgraduate scholarship for horticulture researchers, supported by the WA Cook Government

Pomewest welcomes the announcement that the Cook Government supports horticulture research in Western Australia by establishing a new postgraduate scholarship in honor of the late John Cripps. Cripps was a renowned breeder who created the Cripps Pink variety, sold under the Pink Lady® apple brand. This is a fitting tribute to his life's work, as the Pink Lady® apple has had great global success as the world's first branded apple.

  • Up to $150,000 available for post graduate students

  • New scholarship named in honour of John Cripps, breeder of Pink Lady apples

  • Cook Government investing in the future of WA's diverse horticulture industry

The Cook Government is advancing horticulture research in Western Australia with a new postgraduate scholarship named in honour of the renowned breeder of the Pink Lady apple. The investment reflects the State Government's commitment to driving a strong future for WA's diverse horticulture industry, backed by innovative research and development.

The John Cripps Horticulture Scholarship will provide the successful candidate with $150,000 to undertake a full-time Doctorate or $100,000 for a master's degree. The biennial scholarship will encourage industry-focused research projects and overcome constraints to horticulture production.

The initiative has been endorsed by the Cripps family, including John's daughters, Alwyne Parker and Dr Helen Cripps.
