Launch of the WA Pome Fruit Industry Strategic Plan 2026 - 30
Pomewest Committee is proud to announce the launch of the updated 2026 - 2030 WA apple and pear industry Strategic Plan.
This updated strategic plan has been finalised with a commitment to profitability and sustainability. It focuses on market requirements and consistently delivers high-quality fruit to satisfy customers. The plan is built around five strategic pillars to drive profit and production, develop markets, improve the supply chain, enhance climate resilience and environmental sustainability, while providing industry leadership.
“Measuring Success: Improve WA apple productivity and profitability by achieving 55t/ha yield, increasing class 1 packout to 75%, increasing household spend per year to $110, and working towards a 15% class 1 export target. Improve WA pear yield to 4,750 tonne per year and maintain $20 spend per household per year.”
As the APC Pome Subcommittee, Pomewest has worked collaboratively to enhance the previous 2020 - 25 industry strategic plan. Instead of making radical changes, we have maintained many effective tactics since the challenges and opportunities identified in the previous strategy still impact the industry's growth and profitability today. Additionally, we have incorporated climate resilience and environmental sustainability tactics to help growers adapt to climate change's effects and manage environmental impacts.
Developed in partnership with the committee, industry leaders, growers, partners, and key stakeholders, this plan outlines clear and actionable objectives and tactics designed to foster sustainable growth and advance industry development, ultimately working toward a prosperous future for all WA growers.
The five strategic pillars
The plan builds on the pillars established in the previous strategy and introduces five key strategic pillars. These pillars shape the priorities and guide Pomewest’s initiatives, helping to provide explicit directives for selecting programs and projects for action. The five strategic pillars are:
Drive Productivity and Profitability: Improve capability and capacity to build your profitable ‘Future Orchard’.
Develop Markets: Drive domestic consumption and develop export opportunities for future-proofing industry security.
Improve Supply Chains: Identify and manage WA supply chain inefficiencies.
Climate Resilience and Environmental Sustainability: Build growers' resilience to climate change impacts and drive the industry to a more environmentally sustainable future.
Industry Leadership: Provide industry leadership with unity and purpose, and attract funding to deliver the plan
