HAVE YOUR SAY Draft WA Apple and Pear Industry 2026 - 2030 Strategic Plan

We are inviting comments.

The draft strategic plan for the WA Apples and Pear Industry, outlining the vision and goals for 2026 to 2030, is now open for feedback from the WA Pome Fruit Fee for Service (FFS)producer stakeholders.

The review period closes on April 1, 2025.

This plan stems from the productive workshop held in November, organised by Pomewest and facilitated by Catherine O’Keeffe, the CEO of the Agricultural Produce Commission. Key strategies and objectives developed were during the event.

During the workshop, participants discussed critical risks and opportunities in the industry. We focused on considering current challenges while envisioning future priorities. We invited diverse industry leaders, passionate growers, and key stakeholders, whose insights were invaluable, fostering a sense of unity and collaboration among those present and absent.

A primary focus of our discussions was the need to maintain stable farm gate prices. These prices are essential for ensuring the economic viability of local producers and providing a steady food supply for consumers throughout Western Australia. This stability is vital for sustaining our growers' livelihoods and supporting a resilient local economy.

We also recognised the importance of developing strong export markets and emphasised the need for effective biosecurity measures and enhanced climate resilience strategies. These elements are crucial for our industry's sustainability and ensuring our products are positioned favourably in an increasingly competitive global market.

We aspire to cultivate a vibrant and prosperous future for the Western Australian apples and pears industry through these dedicated efforts. This creates advantages for our hardworking producers and consumers seeking quality fruits, and the broader community benefits from sustainable agricultural practices. By investing in innovation and collaboration, we aim to ensure a flourishing ecosystem that supports economic growth, fosters local partnerships, and enriches the lives of everyone involved.
