South Perth DPIRD office closure due to asbestos testing results

DPIRD Communications has issued the following statement regarding the impact of the South Perth closure on ongoing biosecurity functions that may affect the horticultural industry. We will strive to keep the sector updated on any developments.

Due to recent asbestos testing results, the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) made the decision to restrict access to its South Perth site. This has impacted DPIRD’s ability to deliver some core biosecurity functions including diagnostics and testing, and surveillance activities. DPIRD is working to restore these functions as quickly as possible.

DPIRD is prioritising its available capacity to deliver these functions and triaging service requests for diagnostics and testing. DPIRD’s Diagnostics and Laboratory Services (DDLS) can receive samples that have been triaged for priority testing. Critical and urgent testing requests must be emailed to DDLSupdates@dpird.wa.gov.au for assessment.

DPIRD remains committed to protecting Western Australia’s economy, environment and the community from the risk of animal and plant pests and diseases and is actively seeking alternative solutions to continue providing these important functions. If you have any other questions about the restriction of access to South Perth email enquiries@dpird.wa.gov.au
