Lasers used to protect crops in Donnybrook

Pome Committee member Sam Licciardello has been speaking to the ABC this week about his laser technology trial and his experiences so far.  You will recall that Pomewest organised on site demonstration in August in Donnybrook for our growers to attend to find out more information about this tool to protect against crop damage.

The result of the  trial enabled Sam to pick an extra 70 bins of fruit, Sam said the machine could operate 24/7 and the beam did not harm the birds. However, he still believes that protective netting is more effective and Pomewest still calls for further rebates to address multiple protection from pests and climatic factors such as hail and sunburn.
