According to NielsenIQ's report on May 21, 2023, household spending on WA apples is still in line with the industry's strategic plan objectives, with a slight increase to $82.38 from last year. Additionally, household spending on pears in April 2023 aligns perfectly with the plan's target at $20.88.
In the fresh fruit market, bananas and berries are the top competitors, accounting for 29.8% and 23% of fruit spending, respectively. Apples make up 17.2% of the same set, with table grapes, stonefruit, and avocados comprising the majority of the remaining percentage.
High-income households contribute the most to apple sales, with 49.1% in terms of dollar sales compared to 45.2% for total fruit. Senior couples, bustling families, and small-scale families are the top apple consumers.
For pears, senior couples are the biggest purchasers in terms of both dollars and consumption.
