This week Pomewest sponsored and contributed to the South West food Bowl Careers Day in Nannup. Providing apples to eat for over 750 local visiting school students to promote the produce grown in the area. Also assisting in various activities encouraging interest in careers in the Pome and other agricultural industries.
At Mark and Catherine Scott’s orchard - Nannup Fresh Fruit there were four stations; apple tasting of new and current apple varieties with Steele Jacob DPIRD, Soil Your Undies soil health with Susie Murphy White , orchard walk with IPM focus by James Scott and Mark Scott teamed up with NBN to talk about technology in agriculture with their communications truck onsite.
Down the road the students visited the Dunnett’s farm to see silage and hay making in action and pregnancy testing of cows, Out ‘ n’ About Eggs and Cambray Cheese to see how Sheep milk is made into cheese.
The Nannup Recreation ground featured a round robin style of activities offering students a snippet of what careers can be available in agriculture, entomology, livestock, aquaculture, and natural resource management, as well as a tasty sausage sizzle lunch.
Thanks to all the contributors including our own Susie Murphy White and the entire Scott Family for being so generous in their support of this event and special thanks to James who made a real connection with the students.
