Queensland Fruit Fly Quarantine Area Notice Extension Update No 6

DPIRD continues to make progress with the eradication of Queensland fruit fly (Qfly) in the Bayswater area following a confirmed detection in early 2023. A Quarantine Area Notice is still in place and covers a 15 km radius around the Bayswater area while DPIRD works towards reinstatement of Area Freedom. The Quarantine Area is
now a single area. Under the national fruit fly management protocol, reinstatement of area freedom is dependent on the absence of Qfly in the Quarantine Area for one generation plus 28 days or 12 weeks after the last wild fruit fly or larvae is detected (whichever is longer).

The detection of a single Qfly in the quarantine area outside the Bayswater area has triggered a recalculation of the anticipated area freedom date to 11:59 p.m. on Monday, 4 December 2023.
— Department of Primary Resources and Regional Development

As such a new Quarantine Area Notice will extend to 11:59 pm on Monday 4 December 2023 and will be reviewed as the biosecurity response progresses.
