Planning for the future

Strategic Plan Review - defining what grower need post 2025

Pomewest hosted a dozen apple and pear growers and industry stakeholders 27 November, at the Donnybrook Hotel, to discuss and enhance strategies for advancing the industry by 2030. APC CEO Catherine O'Keeffe facilitated the event, focusing on industry risks, opportunities, priorities, and future objectives. Industry engagement was both invited and encouraged in this workshop-based format.

Participants had the opportunity to review and evaluate the WA Pome Fruit Industry's Vision, Mission, and Key Objectives to assess the impact of FFS investment through real-time outcomes. Sustainability and profitability continue to be the most critical outcomes for the industry, especially after considering the challenges posed by Covid-19 and changes in weather patterns over the past five years.

Maintaining farm gate prices is vital for ensuring the viability of local producers and securing food supply for WA consumers. Additionally, building export markets with biosecurity and climate resilience.

Pomewest extends its gratitude to all participants for their valuable insights and assistance during this exercise, which benefits the entire industry.

It's not too late! The Pomewest Committee will share the outcomes and draft plans for the entire industry to review and provide feedback before finalizing the 2026-2030 plan. In the meantime, we welcome any suggestions or input regarding this process.
