Industry Update # 2 Queensland Fruit Fly Bayswater Incursion 2023

Situation update 24 March 2023

 Delimiting surveillance in Bayswater has detected host plants with Qfly larvae present. To date, all detections relating to this outbreak are within the 200 m area (delimitation zone) around the initial detection via DPIRD’s permanent surveillance trapping grid.

DPIRD surveillance teams are out in the Quarantine Area (QA) focussing on the delimitation zone. Since the incident was first declared on 2 March 2023, teams have undertaken the following actions:

• attended 154 premises, notified residents of the QA and delivered printed materials.

• gained access to the backyards of 70 premises to apply Qfly bait to host trees.

• visited properties on Saturday 18 March to contact residents who may not be home during the week.

• established a ring of Naturalure baits on all street trees around the 1.5 km area (Corrective Action Zone) and spot baited all parks.

• spot baited 158 km of road verge street trees within the QA.
