Hort Innovation Board Visits Western Australian Stakeholders and Partners

This week the Hort Innovation Board, CEO and other key personnel from Hort Innovation visited WA to reconnect and meet with the Hon Minister Jackie Jarvis MLC, key industry representatives and DPIRD executives.  The visit was designed to gather information on current performance of grower levy funds and to understand the WA perspective for the future focus for horticulture.

The visit started tour started at Northern Valley Pack shed in Bindoon on Tuesday afternoon, where Shane Kay, Orchardist/Manager/Director of the facility hosted a tour of the storage, grading and packing operations.  An informal catch-up took place.  WA Directors Michael Nixon and Catherine Oates, along with the Hort Innovation Liaison Managers Bronwyn Walsh and Susie Murphy White organised the board to meet some of the WA Hort Innovation's SIAP and SMP representatives including Share Kay, and Terry Martella and Nardia Stacy from  R&D and marketing panels.  Other representatives and growers from the Wine, Vegetable, Berry and Turf industries were also in attendance.

On Wednesday evening, Hort Innovation Board hosted an after hours function at top WA Chef, Stewart Law's Bright Tank establishment in East Perth. Where the Hon Minister Jackie Jarvis MLC addressed the group, along with the Hort Innovation Board's Chair Julie Bird welcoming industry stakeholders and partners, inviting open discussion between the parties. Topics included some of the current national project outcomes, future collaborations, feedback on Hort Innovation's current performance, and suggestions on how to continue to build meaningful ways that grower levy funds can benefit the Apple and Pears in WA and Horticulture Industry as a whole.
