Pomewest is now asking for Expressions of Interest to join the APAL New Zealand grower tour.

Pomewest has set aside some funding to help cover the expenses for seasoned industry members and our next generation of apple growers to participate in this incredible opportunity to see the cutting-edge production orchards in Nelson and Hawkes Bay. Join us on the APAL-organised grower tour of New Zealand in January 2024 and enhance your knowledge and skills in orchard production and efficiency. Don't miss out on this rare chance to raise your skill sets, and take your expertise of growing fruit to the next level.

There is a formal prerequisite to participate: Growers must agree to either host an orchard walk or be part of a participant panel to share how they are going to implement the knowledge gained from the experience, with the rest of the WA industry next year.

The tour will take place in New Zealand from January 15th to 19th, 2024, covering both the South and North islands. AgFirst consultants will lead orchard walks in their home regions during the tour, allowing growers to learn from the experts. The tour will also include visits to leading growers in the Tasman (Nelson) and Hawke's Bay regions, where participants can discuss their season-to-date, block performance, and growing systems.

Over the four days of tours, participants will see:

  • High-performance orchard blocks consistently perform at >100t/ha across various planting densities and varieties.

  • Modern and emerging planting systems and their performance to date.

  • New varieties, growth habits, and trends in plantings.

To ensure flights and accommodation from Perth are secured promptly, an email confirming your interest in attending to us as soon as possible is essential. That way, we can get planning underway before the year's end.
